Before you buy

What your tank should be running at

Every coral we sell is grown in these conditions, so the closer your tank sits to them, the easier the move will be. Test before you order, and if a number is off, fix it slowly.

Temperature 24 – 26 °C Steady day and night. A heater and a thermostat you trust.
Salinity 1.025 sg About 35 ppt. Top up evaporation with fresh RO, not salt water.
Alkalinity 8 – 9 dKH The one to watch. Swings here stress corals faster than anything else.
Calcium 420 – 440 ppm Feeds skeleton growth in LPS and SPS.
Magnesium 1300 – 1400 ppm Keeps calcium and alkalinity stable. Easy to forget.
Nitrate 2 – 10 ppm Not zero. Corals need some nitrate for colour and growth.
Phosphate 0.03 – 0.08 ppm Also not zero. Bottoming it out bleaches corals.
Ammonia & nitrite 0 ppm Both must read zero before any coral goes in.
pH 8.0 – 8.4 Some daily drift is normal and nothing to chase.
Tank age 3 months + Mature, cycled and stable. New tanks lose corals.

Stability beats perfection. A tank held steadily at 7.5 dKH will do better than one swinging between 7 and 11 chasing the “right” number. Change one thing at a time, and give it a week.
